IT was doubles up for Brian Kerley at City West yesterday as he topped the leader board after the PGA Trainees’ pro-am tournament on the Lakes Course and also led in the winning Paddy Power team.

Kerley clear in PGA Trainees’ pro-am

Kerley fired a fabulous 59 on the par 65 course to be three shots ahead of the field with Ciaran Smyth in second spot. Kerley, the Dundalk assistant to Leslie Walker, reached the turn in one-under-par 32 with two birdies and a bogey at the second hole. He then decorated his card with five birdies on the homeward run without a dropped shot in sight for five-under-27.

Along with amateurs Ross Ivers (18), Dermot Gleeson (22) and Claire Bolger (12), Kerley posted a team total of 87 points. That was the same as Tom Flanagan’s (Heritage) team but Kerley’s crew took the honours with 44 points on the back nine - his five birdies contributing handsomely.
