Muskerry magic

Muskerry five handicapper Ger McCarthy posted a level par 69 over his home club’s ‘blue course’ to produce the best score of the weekend qualifier in the Ford Cork Junior Scratch Trophy competition.

His score easily topped the Saturday qualifiers with Liam Power (6) of Lee Valley and Muskerry teenager Shane Whooley next on 73. Colin Daly (5) of Harbour Point returned a best-of-the-day 70 on Friday and he was followed on 72 by host club member John Brophy.

Sixty four made it to the Easter matchplay stage, the draw for which appeared in yesterday’s Irish Examiner digest.
