Galway denied on the double

GALWAY’S dream of an unprecedented hat-trick at the Bulmers inter-club festival of golf was shattered at Rosslare yesterday when they lost in agonising fashion in the finals of both the Barton Shield and Irish Junior Cup.

They still have the Irish Senior Cup to play for, a competition they have yet to win, although it remains to be seen how well they can recover psychologically from yesterday’s setbacks.

It was an amazing day at Rosslare where the ‘sunny south east’ tag was fully justified until after lunch when the skies darkened and the links was lashed by wind and rain which made control of the ball almost impossible.
