Downcast Montgomerie suffering from bout of Woodsitis

COLIN MONTGOMERIE has shed two and a half stones in 12 months, but no amount of muesli breakfasts and slimline drinks could disguise the psychological baggage he was carrying around Muirfield on Tuesday.

It is a condition by no means as mysterious as the back problem which has afflicted Montgomerie for the past six months and which is the reason for his sustained weight loss.

Rather, it is a nasty case of Woodsitis the realisation that if Tiger Woods is on a golf green, no one else, least of all Montgomerie, can win.
