Boyle club suspended

Boyle Golf Club has been suspended by the Central Council of the GUI for a month for handicapping irregularities.

Boyle club suspended

It appears the Co Roscommon club has been found guilty of issuing improper handicaps to several new members. Yesterday’s statement from the GUI contained the following: “As a result of this suspension, all male members of Boyle Golf Club, whose handicaps are controlled by Boyle Golf Club, are ineligible to participate, and are prohibited during the period of suspension, from competing in

a), all Open competitions organised by a club affiliated to the Union;

b) All GUI inter-club Cups and Shields;

c) all GUI national and provincial championships;

d) any other competition in which its tournament conditions request that a player be the holder of an official CONGU handicap as administered by the GUI.”

This decision of the Union will be of interest to other clubs handing out handicaps without fully checking out the true capabilities of those seeking membership.
