Baena’s bonanza in Matchplay

Colombia’s Marisa Baena became the first HSBC Women’s World Matchplay champion when she beat South Korea’s Meena Lee by one hole in the final.

The 28-year-old had just scraped into the event at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey as one of the last of the 64 qualifiers.

But she ended it £270,000 richer after claiming one of the biggest prizes in the women’s game.
