England's Laura Davies grabbed a share of the lead after an impressive five birdie 68 in yesterday's first round of the AAMI Women's Australian Open at the Concord club in Sydney.

On four under par, the big-hitting Briton tied with Denmark's Christina Kuld, leading by one from South Africa's Laurette Maritz.

It was a nightmare professional debut for 37-year-old transsexual, Mianne Bagger.

The Dane, who underwent a sex change nine years ago, shot 84 and was near the foot of the 156-strong field.
