Hedblom head and shoulders over field

PETER who? Probably the reaction of most golf fans to the fact that 35 year-old Swede Peter Hedblom is the three shot halfway leader in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Hedblom head and shoulders over field

Irish fans are probably better qualified than most to remember Hedblom, given that he figured in the 2003 Nissan Irish Open play-off at Portmarnock, won by the New Zealander Michael Campbell. In the same year, he and our own Peter Lawrie failed to Englishman Kenneth Ferrie in “sudden death” for the Spanish Open.

Hedblom enjoyed his sole tournament success in Morocco in 1996. A burly six footer from Malmo, he shot a seven under par 65 yesterday to move to 11 under par, three ahead of Ireland’s Paul McGinley.
