It is said that lightning does not strike twice but Carlow golfer John Brophy disproved the adage with two holes-in-one on Saturday.

The former Irish army captain, partnered by his brother Eamonn in an open fourball which they won with 45 points, hit his first ace at the 162m 6th and another at the 147m 13th.

A moment of celebration for the Brophy family and one shared by their father Ted, the outgoing Carlow GC President.
