Champion’s strong links to Ireland

THE new Welsh open champion Simon Kahn has strong Irish connections. His father Desmond was born in Milltown, Co Dublin and his uncle Frank is a journalist with the Irish Independent.

Simon’s grandmother was a Lillian Hickey from Thurles, Co Tipperary, and his grand uncle was a legendary GAA writer, John D Hickey. Simon is a regular visitor to Ireland and holidayed with his family as a youngster in Rosslare among other places.
