AFTER failing to capitalise on three wonderful chances on the final three holes, it is rather difficult for a golfer of Pádraig Harrington’s calibre to be enthusiastic after a round of 69.

Indeed, he had to thank a short game in good working order to salvage par at the sixth and bogey at the seventh where he cut his drive into the right rough and behind a line of towering trees. But he pitched and putted the long eighth to reach the turn in 34.
