The golfing gods said 'No'

PAUL McGINLEY, as always, had the perfect way to describe Ireland's gallant failure on the final day of the World Cup in Seville yesterday.

"The golfing gods said no, it's not your turn Ireland, it's England's turn this time," he reasoned.

And with that McGinley trudged his way back to the locker room through the milling crowds to be alone with his thoughts. He and Pádraig Harrington had done themselves and Ireland proud, shooting a seven under par foursomes round of 65 and a 28 under par total of 257 which still left them three behind the inspired English partnership of Paul Casey and Luke Donald and two adrift of Spain's Miguel-Angel Jimenez and Sergio Garcia in second spot.
