Golden Bear to design €60m Donegal course

The news is being widely welcomed and will be a huge boost for north Donegal as this will be the county’s first five star hotel.

Nicklaus, one of the great names in world golf, is due to arrive in Carrigart this evening for the official announcement.

The two 18-hole links courses will be upgraded to championship standard by Nicklaus.

According to Richard McCafferty, one of the driving figures behind the project, it is hoped to start work on the hotel in the coming weeks. The hotel, with a full leisure complex, will have 96 luxury bedrooms. There will also be a number of exclusive homes built on the 350 acres.

It is understood that next year further details will be announced about a deal to market the hotel with a multi-national chain.
