Golf club moves on card row

IN a bid to defuse controversy at Killarney Golf Club, a proposed €100 spend card for food and drink in the clubhouse will not now be mandatory.

The club's management committee and board of directors announced they had decided to withdraw the compulsory element of the contribution.

The 2,000 members can make a voluntary contribution if they wish.

A statement said: "Members should note that it (spend card) carries the entitlement to a 10% discount on all monies spent in the bar and restaurant after the first €100."

The statement referred to a discussion at the club's AGM last December, saying the mood of the meeting was the contribution should be mandatory, and this was subsequently ratified.
