RETIEF GOOSEN has thanked Michael Campbell for sparing him some almighty stick.

Goosen knows he would never be able to live down the day he missed a play-off because he was miles away waiting for a plane to take off.

That day nearly arrived on Sunday. The world number four finished the Smurfit European Open at the K-Club on five under par and with Campbell 10 under with four holes to play - two of them par fives - he went to Dublin Airport.
