Owens shares lead

Royal Dublin’s Leonard Owens fired a level-par 72 yesterday for a share of the lead after the opening round of the PGA Senior Club Professional Championship.

Playing over King's Lynn in Norfolk, the 54-year-old joined four others at the top of the leaderboard Scotland's John McTear, Germany-based Peter Millhouse, Gordon Townhill (Brough) and Parnell Reilly (Huddersfield).

Owens, three under after 10 and heading for an undisputed lead, admitted he almost took fright at such a position, and then dropped shots at the 12th, 14th and 17th but rallied for a par at the final hole.
