A GLORIOUS golfing week continues uninterrupted for Gary Murphy.

Gary gets an extension to a glittering week

The 30 year-old Kilkenny golfer survived a few anxious moments in yesterday’s second round at Royal St Georges to add a second round of 74 to Thursday’s 73 for a five over par total of 147 and safe passage into the final two rounds of the Open Championship. He is now very much in the running for another major cheque to augment the £160,000 he picked up for finishing 4th in last week’s Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.

Murphy doesn’t exactly cut the figure of your typical slimline modern professional, but he has always been blessed with a lovely golf swing and a laid back personality that helps him to stay cool and calm even in the most trying of circumstances. It has taken him eight long years to establish himself on tour but now that he has done so, it is reasonable to expect him to go on and make a sizeable impression.
