It’s just not happening for me, says Harrington

PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON will go into next week’s Ryder Cup without a win to his credit this year.

It’s just not happening for me, says Harrington

He salvaged something from an otherwise frustrating day at Mount Juliet yesterday with birdies at the last two holes of his second round in the American Express World Championship but at five under par he is nine shots off the scorching pace being set by Tiger Woods and effectively out of the running for the top prize of 1m.

Harrington’s general game lacked its customary consistency, something he put down to problems with his alignment; nor was his putting anything like as sharp as it needed to be. There is little wrong with rounds of 69 and 70 over a course measuring 7,246 yards in length, but in the absolutely benign conditions prevailing yesterday and with greens of such perfection, that kind of performance is still well short of what is required.
