VIJAY SINGH said yesterday he wished the organisers of the HSBC World Match Play Championship had given him a bye into the quarter-finals rather than making him fight for it.

After trouncing German Alex Cejka in the first round, the 40-year-old Fijian said he would have based the seedings on the world rankings.

That way the world number three would have been seeded second behind world number two and defending champion Ernie Els, and they would have been kept apart until Sunday’s final.
