Pal Eddie Jordan profited from McGinley’s success, but the shrewdest punters might have been scanning the betting exchanges?

Betfair made McGinley a general 50-1 shot when play began on Thursday but he quickly drifted out to an amazing 359-1 after carding a double bogey and a triple bogey in his first seven holes.

A €20 punt at that stage would have yielded €8,000 last night.
