JAMES HEATH fired a four-under-par 68 to put England in a strong position after the first round of the World Amateur Team Championship in Puerto Rico.

Heath red-hot for England

The 21-year-old English Amateur champion was kicking himself for not posting an even lower score after dropping strokes at three of the last five holes. Team-mate Gary Wolstenholme, the 44-year-old Walker Cup star, had birdies at three of the last four holes as he handed in a 69. England’s aggregate of 137 left them in fourth place, five strokes behind America who still have three holes remaining.

Wales and Scotland both finished on 141 and were lying in joint 10th place, but Ireland were one over par with three holes left.
