Howell wins best shot

David Howell’s six iron to five feet at the 17th hole during the Ryder Cup has won the European tour’s Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month award for September.

The 29-year-old Englishman, who will receive a cheque for £1,000 to be donated to a charity of his choice, and Paul Casey were one down with two holes to play against Chad Campbell and Jim Furyk in the Saturday fourballs.

Howell made a birdie two and then Casey won the last for a victory which swung the momentum back Europe’s way.
