Dixon resigns

Geoff Dixon has resigned as national coach to the GUI after just 12 months in the job.

Dixon resigns

The Newcastle native, who was the first full-time national coach to be appointed by the Golfing Union of Ireland, left the post earlier this week. “Things didn’t really work out,” Dixon said yesterday. “There were also one or two personal issues, not relating to the GUI, which had a bearing on my decision.”

Dixon, 41, succeeded Howard Bennett as national coach on June 25 last year and moved to Ireland with his family to set up a new coaching structure.

Albert Lee, president of the GUI said: “We intend to have a look at the overall coaching programme,” he said. “We have only had a national coach for 12 months so it is a question of the GUI deciding where we go from here.”
