Former Cork footballer Paudie Kissane departs role as Douglas coach

Paudie Kissane has stepped away from his role as Douglas senior football coach, bringing an end to a two‑season spell that never fully ignited for the city club. 

The 2010 All‑Ireland winner informed players of his decision on Wednesday.

Douglas failed to progress from their McCarthy Insurance Group Premier SFC group in 2025 and also this season. 

They also suffered relegation from Division 1 of the league back in June, continuing a long‑running struggle for consistency at the top level of Cork football. 

Since winning the old IFC in 1997, Douglas have reached just one senior final — in 2008, when they were beaten by Nemo Rangers — and their form across recent campaigns has reflected that uneven trajectory. 

Kissane’s coaching style has long been rooted in structure, conditioning and defined roles, and those elements were evident during his time in Douglas even as performances fluctuated. 

Kissane’s track record elsewhere underlines the quality of coach Douglas are now losing. 

Before joining the city side, he enjoyed a relatively successful six‑season stint with Éire Óg, helping guide the club to back‑to‑back county titles — the PIFC in 2019 followed by the SAFC a season later.

Douglas now face another reset as they look to appoint a successor capable of lifting them out of their current cycle. The club retains a strong underage pipeline and a competitive core, but the challenge remains turning potential into sustained impact at adult level. 

For the former Cork defender, the move closes a brief but committed spell in the city.
