An elbow injury has ruled Cork’s Ashling Thompson out of action for the foreseeable future, with the Milford star set to miss the remainder of the Centra National Camogie League and the upcoming Munster senior championship.
Manager Ger Manley is hopeful the six-time All-Ireland winner and multiple All-Star recipient, who lined out in all four league ties this year, will make it back to play a part in the All-Ireland senior championship.
The injury was sustained after an accidental clash with a player late in the Kilkenny game last weekend.
“She dislocated her elbow against Kilkenny and went to the hospital in Kilkenny afterwards and they put it back in place, but she needs an operation this week because there is a fracture,” Manley said.
“She is a huge loss, she has been brilliant for us, phenomenal since I’ve been involved. She came back from the cruciate (ACL in 2022) earlier than everybody anticipated.
“But we are looking at the All-Ireland championship if we are still in it, maybe in July. We will have to wait and see how the operation goes.
“She will do all the work that is required but with an injury like that you have to be careful.”
Cork host Tipperary - both teams are looking for the win to ease relegation fears - in round 5 of the league today in Páirc Uí Rinn, with throw-in at 1pm.
