The All-Ireland club football championship has always produced incredible stories but one of the most unique tales of the last 15 years was when St Brigid’s met Garrycastle in the 2012 All-Ireland football semi-final.
The clubs are situated just a handful of miles from each other but they’re in different provinces, split by the river Shannon, St Brigid’s in Connacht, Garrycastle in Leinster. The connections were so close that seven first cousins – four with Garrycastle and three with St Brigid’s – were involved that afternoon.
