Five-time All-Ireland winner Aidan O’Mahony has been appointed as the new manager of his Rathmore. He succeeds David McCarthy who stepped away with his management team after the club lost the East Kerry O’Donoghue Cup narrowly to rivals Dr Crokes last month.

A two-time All-Star, O'Mahony only hung up his club boots following Rathmore’s 2023 All-Ireland intermediate final victory over Galbally Pearses having played for 25 years with his club.

O'Mahony moved into management after retiring and was appointed manager of Macroom in December 2023 and spent two years in charge of the Muskerry PIFC side but with little success. He informed the club of his decision to step down in recent weeks, despite winning the Tom Creedon Cup in his first year. But the team failed to fire in the championship in 2025 and O’Mahony decided to step away.

He takes over a very talented Rathmore side which lost two semi-finals this year and one final. They lost to Austin Stacks in the Kerry SFC semi-finals, having dumped favourites East Kerry out in the quarters.

They also lost the semi-final of Senior Club Championship to Na Gaeil and the O’Donoghue final to Crokes. Their side is laced with young players who have worn the green and gold at underage level, including Dan Murphy and Ciaran Collins currently playing with the Kerry senior side.

They are backboned by Kerry All-Ireland winners Paul Murphy and Shane Ryan. O’Mahony will be hoping to be very competitive in league and championship in Kerry in 2026 when relegation returns to the SFC and Club Championship after a three year moratorium.
