Adrian Mullen looks set to miss out on the remainder of Ballyhale Shamrocks’s Leinster SHC club campaign after suffering a broken thumb in Sunday’s quarter-final win over Kilcormac-Killoughey.

The 26-year-old is set to undergo surgery on Thursday arising from the incident in the closing stages of the game in UPMC Nowlan Park that is believed to have sparked the post-match row.

A Kilcormac-Killoughey supporter was later arrested after he had attempted to strike Mullen and had to be restrained by full-back Jordan Quinn and a club official.

That ugly incident followed Mullen’s reaction to being struck on his left hand after he had gathered the ball.

Former young hurler of the year Mullen fractured his right thumb in the 2023 Leinster SHC round robin game against Wexford. He returned to line out in the All-Ireland semi-final win over Clare.

The man in his 40s who was arrested is due to appear in front of the courts at a later date for a public disorder incident.

He also faces a lengthy suspension from the Leinster competitions control committee who on Monday were due to receive referee Pádraig Dunne’s match report.

Eoin Cody and TJ Reid also picked up knocks but are expected to be fit for Sunday week’s provincial semi-final against Clough-Ballacolla in Kilkenny.
