Rathgormack in the hunt for three-in-a-row

Rathgormack can turn three in a row despair into three-in-a-row delight on Sunday.
In the space of 14 months, between August 2021 and October 2022, the green and red went down twice to The Nire and once to Abbeyside/Ballinacourty in county finals. Fast forward to November 2025 and they can flip that record on its head.
The back to back champions have won 15 Waterford SFC games in a row but got one hell of a scare in last weekend's semi-final against Abbeyside/Ballinacourty. Kenny Hassett's men went from nine points up after 16 minutes to three points down with four to play. A Stephen Curry goal and a Jason Curry free broke them out of jail.
Rathgormack boast an array of inter county talent from Paudie Hunt between the posts to conductor of the attack Conor Murray at corner forward. Stephen Curry is their top scorer with 1-15 from play. They are averaging 20 points per game.
Brothers Jamie and Tom Barron haven’t played a minute of this year’s championship for The Nire. Jamie is struggling with a knee injury while Tom is sidelined with a broken wrist. Conor Gleeson has also missed the last two games but was togged out for the semi-final win against Gaultier. Waterford great Thomas O'Gorman came out of retirement this season at the age of 40.
Aaron Ryan has been their star performer with 1-19. County man Dermot Ryan can land two pointers off his lethal left boot. Midfield will be fiercely contested. Sean and Ciaran Walsh pair up for The Nire with Tholom Guiry at number six. The hard working Michael Curry and the towering Walsh brothers (Tom and Peter) are Rathgormack's main ball winners.
This is the fourth county final meeting between these Comeragh rivals in five years. In the 2024 semi final, Rathgormack ran out 11 point victors.
The Rathgormack support will be split in two however as the Munster ladies football final between Comeragh Rangers and Southern Gaels has a 3.30 start in Mallow. Those who turn up to Fraher Field should have a three in a row to celebrate.
