Kilcoo's magnificent seven in Down

Down SFC final: Kilcoo 1-17 Carryduff 1-11

As if Kilcoo haven't made enough history, the Down giants who's annexed 13 of the last 14 Down SFCs have become the first club to win seven successive titles with this victory over Carryduff in Pairc Esler.

The Down kingpins were worthy of their win leading from start to finish but their Belfast opponents did have their moments.

A first half penalty converted by man of the match Paul Devlin had a big impact on the game putting four between the teams at the break and the Magpies pushed on in the second half to lead by 10 points at one stage.

Disaster struck for the south Belfast side on 21 minutes when the Magpies were awarded a penalty during a goalmouth scrable where Owen McCabe was penalised for a throw-ball. Paul Devlin stepped up and made no mistake. Shealan Johnston added a point from a tight angle that was awarded after being checked and while Devlin missed the first two-point effort of the game as half-time approached, James Guinness was on target with his at the other end to narrow the margin to two 1-4 to 0-5.

Kilcoo goalkeeper Niall Kane cancelled that score out when he converted a free from outside the arc, giving his side a 1-06 to 0-05 lead at the break.

Devlin scored the first point after the restart and while Odhran Sherry replied the Magpies machine kicked moved up a gear after that, hitting seven of the next eight points to lead 1-14 to 0-07.
