Cork and Adelaide Crows star Mark Keane has been recognised for outstanding form this season with a place in the 2025 All Australian team squad.

The AFL named a squad of 44 players in contention for selection for the 2025 AFL All Australian Team. A final team of 22 will be named on Thursday, 28 August as part of the AFL Awards.

Keane has played 23 matches this season as he helped Adelaide to the minor premiership, the accolade awarded to the team at the top of the ladder at the end of the regular season. He has been a mainstay of their defence, averaging 14.6 disposals at 78.2 per cent efficiency, 4.5 marks, 2.5 intercept marks, 5.3 spoils and 4.6 rebound 50s.

It continues the Mitchelstown man’s remarkable rise since returning to Australia in 2023, having previously played for Collingwood.

In the AFL, the last Irish All-Australian was the late Jim Stynes in 1993. Tipperary’s Orla O’Dwyer made history in 2022 by becoming the first Irish AFLW All-Australian. Mayo’s Niamh Kelly was recognised in 2023 and three Irish players made the 22 in 2024: Aisling McCarthy (Tipperary), Aishling Moloney (Tipperary) and Aileen Gilroy (Mayo).

Meanwhile, the eight finalists for 2025 are almost locked in with several Irish players set to be involved. Oisin Mullin and Mark O’Connor’s Geelong take on defending champions Brisbane next week, who have Darragh Joyce and Conor McKenna on their list.

Callum Brown of GWS Giants is scheduled to play Hawthorn (Conor Nash). Full fixtures will be confirmed on Wednesday after Gold Coast play Essendon.
