Listry's Aaron O'Shea: scored a hat-trick against Currow in Kerry's Premier JFC

WINS for Ballyduff and Duagh in Kerry's Premier JFC Group 1 will see the sides meet in Duagh next weekend to determine who tops the group. Ballyduff recorded back to back wins as they saw off Renard 4-11 to 1-14 with Evan Boyle and Michael Slattery inspired the Duffers to victory.

The sides were level at the break 2-5 to 1-8, Slattery tallied 2-2 in the opening half and while Boyle (2f) and Tommy O’Connor added scores, they could not shake off the South Kerry men. Mark Sugrue inspiring them with give opening half points alongside 1-1 from Sean Teahan.

The game burst to life inside the opening minute of the second half when Stefan Carrig goaled for Ballyduff. Reenard cut the gap back to one with 35 on the clock after another Sugrue two pointer and leveled the tie minutes later off a Sugrue free. Kerry U-20 player Evan Boyle would grab their fourth goal of the tie in the 53rd minute, as the hosts saw out the game in style.

There was a testy atmopshere in Waterville where Duagh made the long trek before securing a 3-15 to 0-13 victory. Duagh were leading 2-3 to 0-6 approaching half time when all hell broke loose with three red cards and a number of yellows being the end result. The settled in the second half with Duagh leading 2-6 to 0-8 with Cormac Dillon Duagh’s top marksman once again.

Group 2 saw wins for St Senans over Churchill on a 0-13 to 0-11 scoreline while Currow took on Listry under protest as they went down, 4-12 to 2-9. Given that the controversy over Currow's opening game against St. Senans and the disputed scoreline remained unresolved, Currow made it clear to all parties that they were lining out under protest, but did so respectfully. We’re glad of their magnanimous gesture - without it, and a large group of supporters would have been deprived of an absolutely superb game of football.

Currow thought they had drawn the game with St Senans but the match official admitted to a error in granting Senans a one-point instead of a two-pointer and Currow levelled the game - as they thought -  from the kickout. The CCC accepted the revised scoreline submitted by the match official that gave St Senans the win by a point. Currow appealed the result on a procedural breach as they understand the rules but they lost that appeal on Friday night. They have now appealed to Munster Council but that appeal has yet to be heard. So they threatened to pull out on what Currow describe as a “matter of principle” but made an eleventh hour decision to play.

Aaron O'Shea converted an early penalty for Listry and then one of the stroke of half time to see them lead 2-4 to 0-6 at half time with a Shane O’Leary two pointer giving Currow hope. But once Aaron O’Shea completed his hat-trick Currow faced an uphill battle but a John Buckley goal did give Currow some however. However a fourth Cathal O’Donoghue goal, ended Currow’s comeback as Listry recorded a second win.

Favourites Ballymacelligott had a good away win in Group 3 defeating Dromid Pearses 3-17 to 1-14 though the sides were tied at 1-9 apiece at half time. A Daire Keane goal just before half time allowed Ballymac back in the game and without ever hit top gear they pulled clear with Niall Collins, Jack Joy, Donal Daly and Martin McKivergan to the fore with Collins scoring a good goal.

Castlegregory look like the other team that will emerge from the group 1-16 to 1-12 win over St Pats.

In Group 4 Brosna were minutes away from a shock win over Keel but Kerry senior panelist Keith Evans scored a goal that saw the game end in a 0-15 to 1-12 draw. Ardfert got back to winning ways with a 2-13 t0 1-6 over Annascaul and now its down to the final round of fixtures when Keel host Annascaul and Ardfert host Brosna.
