Cork hurling previews: Barrs can put one foot into knockouts

PSHC Group 3 – St Finbarr’s v Blackrock, Pairc Uí Rinn, 7.30pm

Both of these behemoths recorded first-round victories two weeks ago, so the prize here for the winner is to put one step into the knockout stages. With two points in the bag, the Barrs may not risk Brian Hayes while Fionn Coleman continues to be a doubt for the Rockies. The Barrs defence may tip the scales.

Verdict: St Finbarr’s 

SAHC Group 1 – Killeagh v Fermoy, Ballynoe, 7.30pm

Killeagh lived up to expectations in defeating Na Piarsaigh in a classic Round 1 encounter a fortnight ago. The ball-winning abilities of Shane Smiddy and Ryan McCarthy were crucial to their cause, as was the raw potential of Barry Walsh. Fermoy will look to Jake Carr and David Larnder to get their season back on track.

Verdict: Killeagh 

SAHC Group 3 – Bride Rovers v Courcey Rovers, Riverstown, 7.30pm 

Bride Rovers were impressive in beating Blarney in Round 1 with Brian and Eoin Roche, Cillian Tobin and Adam Walsh all standing out. Courceys lost out to Watergrasshill with their star man, Seán Twomey, sidelined. Richie Sweetnam and Tadhg O’Sullivan will carry the fight for Courceys, but the Bride men may have that bit too much.

Verdict: Bride Rovers 

PIHC Group 1 – Éire Óg v Carrigaline, Cloughduv, 7.30pm

Both of these sides suffered narrow defeats in Round 1, but the form of Colm O’Callaghan for Muskerry during the week may give the Ovens-based side the boost they need.

Verdict: Éire Óg 

IAHC Group 3 – Erin’s Own v Aghada, Carrigtwohill, 7.30pm

Verdict: Erin’s Own.
