Vicarstown 4-5 Ballintemple 1-0

Similar to Farran earlier in the day, Vicarstown secured an Allianz Sciath na Scol Cup double as their boys’ team defeated Ballintemple in the DH Urban final.

In the final match of day one, and shortly after their girls’ side defeated Monkstown in their decider, Darragh Buckley inspired Vicarstown to another victory by scoring a sensational tally of 2-4.

Buckley had clearly been watching Patrick Horgan against Limerick the day before as the pick of his goals saw him blast a free past a number of players on the line and into the roof of the net while the pick of his points saw him flick the sliotar over the head of two of his opponents before splitting the posts from distance.

Ballintemple, to their credit, battled until the end although Peter McLaughin’s cleverly batted finish past the keeper was all they could muster as Vicarstown deservedly landed another piece of silverware with Kieran O’Toole also scoring a brace of brilliant goals.

Scorers for Vicarstown: D Buckley (2-4, 2f), K O’Toole (2-0), A O’Sullivan (0-1).

Laura O’Regan was certainly the difference as Vicarstown overcame Monkstown to land the Sciath na Scol DC Urban title.

While Grace Murray found the net for Monkstown with a powerful run and finish in the first half and Faye Knowles rose a green flag for Vicarstown in the second, it was Laura O’Regan who ultimately had the decisive say.

And that is because every other single score from this keenly contested final belonged to the supremely talented number eight.

O’Regan’s two goals came from distance, the first a thunderous drive that nestled in the bottom left corner while her second sailed in past the keeper.

As for her points, five came from open play while she also had a coolly converted free and a 65 to add to her stunning tally which ensured her side secured a fully merited triumph.

Farran and Killeagh had to settle for a share of the Sciath na Scol DC5 Cup as the two teams couldn’t be separated after an enthralling final, which ended in dramatic circumstances.

Farran looked certain to make it a cup double, following their boys' victory over Gaelscoil Chorain earlier in the day, as an Isabelle White goal and a point from the excellent Aoife O’Callaghan had them 1-1 to 0-2 points ahead heading into the closing stages.

But Killeagh thought they had snatched the win in the last minute when Ella Hegarty’s shot was adjudged to have just crept across the goal-line.

But back came Farran and two nervelessly converted dead-ball situations from the cool and calm O’Callaghan swung the tie back in their favour until Hegarty struck in the final action of the game to earn Killeagh a share of the spoils.

Scorers for Farran: A O’Callaghan (0-3, 1 ’65, 1f), I White 1-0.

GS Mhuscraí 7-2 Ballyheada 0-2

A sensational display from Kerera Nic Suibhne inspired

Gaelscoil Mhuscraí

to glory in the Sciath ns Scol DC6 final as they defeated Ballyheada at Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Monday morning.

The talented number seven, who along with her sister Étaoin are the nieces of Cork hurling legend Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, finished the game with an impressive tally of 3-1 to ensure her school saw off the challenge of a hard-working Ballyheada.

And it was Ballyheada who made the brighter start and after a couple of near misses, they deservedly opened the scoring when Lily Aherne split the posts with a brilliantly struck 65.

But Mhuscraí, to their credit, responded quickly and emphatically as superbly taken goals by Kerera Nic Suibhne, Grace Ní Ruba and Étaoin Nic Suibhne, put them in complete control by the interval.

Aherne again fired over from a dead-ball situation in the second period but in the end Gaelscoil proved to be too strong as Kerera Nic Suibhne raised a white flag before completing her hat-trick while Jenna Sorensen and Isabelle Ní Shúilleabháin also chipped in goals to make it a memorable outing for GS Mhuscraí.
