Kerry Colleges Dunloe Cup (U-17A Football) semi-final: St Brendans College 0-17 (0-2-13) IS Killorglin 1-8 (1-0-8)

Frewen Cup winners St Brendan's College had nothing easy in their bid to complete a U17 double at Post-Primary Football level in Kerry this season, as Intermediate School Killorglin made them work for their place in the Kingdom’s Dunloe Cup final on Thursday in Beaufort.

Although the Sem never trailed on the scoreboard from the 13th minute onwards, their goalkeeper James Murphy had to deny ISK on three occasions. He nearly made a fourth save before Charlie Foley’s 39th-minute effort dropped into the net for the only goal of the game.

ISK set the early initiative as Fionn Kennedy impressed for the Mid Kerry School in leading by 0-2 to 0-1 early on before Ben Kelliher leveled the game up for the Sem after 12 minutes.

The Sem’s two players who featured in their U19 team’s run to the Corn Uí Mhuirí final - Liam O’Brien and Kelliher - provided the bulk of their scores on the day, Fionn Doyle with two points their only other scorer in proceedings.

A two-point free from O’Brien meant the Sem led by 0-10 to 0-4 at the break, but they never pushed on from there in the second period.

Foley’s 39th-minute strike meant ISK were able to bring the score back to 0-13 to 1-7 on the three-quarter mark as their goalkeeper Adam Radny saved the Sem’s only goal chance of the game from James Kelly.

The Sem had enough in reserve to see themselves over the line with O’Brien finishing with 0-9.

The Sem await the winner of the other semi-final between Tralee CBS and Inbhear Sceine Kenmare. Their management which features Kerry Senior captain Gavin White alongside Vince Cooper will know that they have some work to do ahead of the decider.
