Team news: Kiely hands Dowling start in Limerick goal

Shane Dowling will make his first Limerick appearance in five and a half years for Sunday’s League visit of Tipperary.

Named between the sticks for Limerick’s second outing of the League, Dowling’s selection bridges the gap to his goal-scoring appearance off the bench in the final quarter of the county’s 2019 All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Kilkenny.

Retired since 2020, Dowling made a dramatic return to the Limerick set-up last November - this time as a goalkeeper - in the wake of first-choice keeper Nickie Quaid’s ruptured ACL.

Dowling replacing Jason Gillane is one of five changes to the Limerick team that opened their League account with a draw away to Cork. Also promoted are Fergal O’Connor at corner-back, Eddie Stokes and David Reidy in the half-forward line, and Aaron Gillane at corner-forward.

Liam Cahill has made six changes to his Tipperary team for the TUS Gaelic Grounds game. Coming into the side are Barry Hogan, Ronan Maher, Bryan O’Mara, Gearoid O’Connor, Darragh Stakelum, and Sean Kenneally.
