Cork selector Brendan Coleman said support from number of businesses on the county helped pay for the training camp.

The Cork hurlers will take in a five-day training camp in Portugal as part of their preparations for the Munster championship.

Pat Ryan's side will travel during the week following their fifth Allianz Hurling League match against Clare on March 9. Their next game is their last of the league, barring an appearance in the final, on March 22 against Galway.

Cork open their Munster Championship campaign against Clare at Cusack Park on April 19.

Last year, the Cork hurlers went to Dingle for a camp while the county's footballers travelled to the Algarve for a four-day stay at the Quinta do Lago resort, where the Irish rugby team are currently preparing for the Six Nations.

“We’re going to Portugal around the 11/12 March, that’s about four or five weeks out from the Munster championship," Cork selector Brendan Coleman told the Irish Examiner.

"If we’re still in the league, it will be even better. We were in west Kerry last year and we were frozen (laughs).

“Businesses in Cork were keen to give some money towards that. It is good for the players that they get into that professional environment. We get five days out there.”
