Glen Rovers pip Douglas to the post in Cork minor A camogie final
The Glen Rovers girls celebrate after the final whistle
A terrific Cork minor A camogie league final eventually went the way of Glen Rovers in Ovens on Wednesday night, the contest was a fitting tribute to their friend and club mate Sarah-Kate O’Meara who passed away unexpectedly last June.
The sides were tied 2-5 each after normal time, Abby Kenneally’s goal in the first period of extra-time put some daylight between the teams. In a thrilling finish, free-taker Clodagh Morrissey reduced the deficit to two.
But the Glen, superbly led by captain Sarah Murphy, weren’t going to be denied.
Douglas edged 0-3 to 0-2 ahead with Kate Hourihan’s accuracy telling.
The first goal arrived in the15th minute through Aoife Martin.
Three minutes from the break Aoife Keenan replied for Douglas to send her side 1-4 to 1-3 up at the break.
Keenan grabbed a second goal upon the restart.
Sinead Roche was equal to the task for Glen Rovers, and as the non-stop action swung from end to end there was no separating the two teams at full time.

Both sides had some excellent players.
Captain and goalkeeper Zoe O’Leary, Clodagh Sweeney, Emma O’Driscoll and Kate Hourihan carried the fight for Douglas.
Odhrna Hurley, Cara O’Flynn, Sarah Murphy and Sophie O’Sullivan were among those to the fore for Glen Rovers.
