Kerry’s Munster LGFA representatives resign over Abbeydorney fixture clash

Eleven Abbeydorney players face a camogie and football fixture clash this weekend.

Kerry's representatives on the Munster Council of the LGFA have resigned following the Munster semi-final fixture clash which has left 11 players choosing between teams this weekend.

Kerry champions Abbeydorney are scheduled to host their Munster LGFA Junior semi-final against Mungret on Saturday at 1pm and eight of their players are also involved in Cillard’s Munster Camogie Junior semi-final, which is set for Kilmoyley at 2pm.

Three more Abbeydorney dual players are involved in the Clanmaurice team which must travel two hours to Moneygall for a Munster Intermediate semi-final, also on Saturday at 2pm.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, which is signed by Kerry LGFA Chairperson Nora Fealey and Kerry Camogie Chairperson Anne-Marie Russell, the Kingdom's County board announced their decision to step down in protest at the issue.

“In light of recent issues involving our county representatives in Munster Club Championship fixtures it is with regret that our Munster LGFA Executive Members feel they have been left with no choice but to resign from their positions with immediate effect.

“As a Kerry LGFA executive we strive to put our clubs first and assist them in any way we can. Ourselves along with Kerry Camogie are appealing to the Munster LGFA to work with the Munster Camogie fixtures to try and offer a solution to allow all players represent their county in what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“While we understand that this may not be entirely possible, we are asking all parties involved to exhaust every avenue available to them before any final decision is reached.”
