Tipperary SFC quarter-finals

Moyle Rovers' impressive form in the Tipperary SFC continued as they saw off the challenge of Arravale Rovers by 0-14 to 0-5 at New Inn, to book their place in the semi-final. The Clonmel outfit were hotly fancied and duly obliged with Rian Quigley starring at midfield. Arravale had the first score from Eoin Lonergan after two minutes but then Moyle Rovers clicked into gear to establish a 0-7 to 0-2 lead by half-time.

Moyle lost countyman Stephen Quirke to a hamstring injury after 20 minutes and that will be a concern going forward. Arravale had the first two points of the second half from Miceal Lowry and Eoin Doocey, suggesting they would rally, but Moyle soon regained control.

Luke Boland finished the day with six points, one from play, and with Rian Quigley, who shot three points, and Gearóid OSullivan also on target they ran out comfortable winners. They are many people’s fancy to add the county crown to the South divisional and county league titles already won this year.

Moyle Rovers' last county win was in 2018 and have been in the shadow of neighbours Commercials in recent years but they are the form team at present with the Bolands, Liam and Luke, Dean English, and Rian Quigley leading the way. Arravale never threatened to cause an upset despite the best efforts of Eoin Doocey, Johnny Ryan and Miceal Lowry.

Kilsheelan-Kilcash had to pull out all the stops to survive a determined Cahir second-half rally by 2-13 to 1-14 in their quarter-final at Ardfinnan. The winners had the aid of the breeze in the first half and with a goal from Daire Brennan after 20 minutes reached the break with a 1-10 to 0-6 advantage.

Mark Kehoe was showing the way for Kilsheelan who were still in control going into the last quarter when they had former countyman Daire Brennan sidelined for a second yellow card.

Cahir redoubled their efforts and were rewarded with a Stephen Grogan goal after 50 minutes cutting the deficit to a point. Kilsheelan looked in bother but they responded in the best possible way, Mark Kehoe setting up Jamie Kehoe for a great goal to re-establish a four-point lead. Despite being a man short, and under constant pressure, Kilsheelan had enough in reserve to see out the contest and secure their semi-final spot.

It was a big win for Kilsheelan for whom Mark Kehoe was outstanding scoring five points, two from play, and being involved in most of their best moments. Daire Brennan also had a fine game as did Barry Kehoe. Cahir were again missing county man Liam Casey who is abroad, a big loss, and found it hard to make up the ground lost in the first half. The Grogans, Stephen and Kevin, were a dominant force around midfield with Niall Mckenna and Craig Guiry also to the fore.
