Cork lead the way in All Star Camogie nominations

The champions' tally is one more than last year when they also claimed the O'Duffy Cup.

Twelve of Cork’s All-Ireland senior camogie starting team have been nominated for PwC All-Stars including camogie player of the year candidates Laura Hayes and Saoirse McCarthy.

Cork’s tally is one more than last year when they also claimed the O'Duffy Cup and again features Hayes, McCarthy, Amy Lee, Amy O’Connor, Laura Treacy, Hannah Looney and Katrina Mackey. Joining them this time around are Aoife Healy, Pamela Mackey, Izzy O’Regan, Ashling Thompson and Orlaith Cahalane.

Runners-up Galway are represented by 11 including player of the year candidate Aoife Donohue. The other 10 are Sarah Healy, Dervla Higgins, Rachael Hanniffy, Roisin Black, Ciara Hickey, Aine Keane, Niamh Kilkenny, Carrie Dolan, Niamh McPeake and Niamh Mallon.

All-Ireland semi-finalists Tipperary’s progressive season is reflected by seven nominations – Eimear Loughman, Caoimhe Maher, Karin Blair, Róisín Howard, Clodagh McIntyre, Karen Kennedy and Eimear McGrath.

Dublin, who also made the last four and for the first time in seven years, have Emma O’Byrne, Claire Gannon, Aisling Hannon and Aisling Maher included, while last year’s finalists Waterford feature with Brianna O’Regan and Beth Carton.

The PwC GPA Camogie Intermediate Player of the Year category features two players from champions Cork and one player from runners up Kilkenny: Rebels’ Lauren Homan and Emma Flanagan as well as Danielle Morrissey.

Laois pair Clodagh Tynan and Aimee Collier and Jenny Grace (Tipperary) comprise the shortlist for junior camogie player of the year.

Camogie Association president Brian Molloy reacted: “The 2024 Camogie inter-county season has been a remarkable one. We were honoured to witness some nail-biting battles between fierce rivals, and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all those who participated across the 2024 season.

“A special congratulations to those select few who have been nominated for inclusion in the prestigious PwC Camogie All-Stars team of 2024. Each individual who has been nominated this year has made a significant contribution to our game and should be extremely proud of their achievements regardless of the outcome on the awards night.”
