Two goals in as many minutes at the start of the second quarter seemed to give defending county champions Kiladangan the platform they needed to progress to the Tipperary senior hurling semi-final.

However, they did not bank on the most dramatic of finishes to the game when Moycarkey Borris came thundering back from eight in arrears - and for Max Hackett to fire a goal in the final play.

The goals from Conor Byrne and Tipp senior Billy Seymour gave Kiladangan a cushion as they played into the strong breeze and they helped them to a 2-13 to 0-11 interval lead which they never looked like surrendering thereafter.

Indeed, the champions looked as though they had another gear or two in them as they swept aside the challenge of the mid men who were appearing at this stage of the championship for the first time in 32 years.

That sweeping did not last though, and Moycarkey Borris had a Tom Ryan goal in the 4th minute of the second half to breathe new life into the side.

That goal though was cancelled by a Brian McLoughney green flag in the 19th minute and Kiladanagan were eight in front with 10 to go.

From then on though, they failed to raise another flag as Moycarkey Borris, trained by former Kilkenny star Eddie Brennan, took over and hit 1-6 without replay to seal a famous victory, and one which left Kiladangan in deep shock.

Subs David Costigan and Kyle Shelly contributed handsomely to the Moycarkey Borris victory.

In the second quarter-final of the afternoon, Toomevara led by 0-12 to 0-10 at the interval having played into the breeze with scores from Darragh McCarthy (3), Darren Delaney (2), Mark McCarthy (2) and Jack Delaney (2) helping them along the way.

JK Brackens though had the Ormond brothers Andrew and Jamie contributing 0-7 between them and the key for the mid-Tipperary men was to get more ball to the duo who were doing the damage.

It was a real nip and tuck second half with scores flying over from both sides.

They were level with six minutes of normal time to go after Eanna McBride pointed for Brackens but Tommevara finished the stronger and hit eight points in the period against three for JK Brackens who battled right to the end but just seemed to run out of steam – Daragh McCarthy’s 11 points doing much to secure the Toomevara win.

In the senior hurling relegation battle, Borris-Ileigh swept aside the challenge of Lorrha Dorrha to secure senior status for next season.

The Borris’ men were 1-12 to 0-8 in front at the halfway mark and by the end, they had staved off the Lorrha Dorrha fight to win out by 2-19 to 1-18.

In the second relegation game, Roscrea had a big win over Templederry Kenyons by 4-20 to 2-13 to create a relegation final between Lorrha Dorrha and Templederry. The half time score in this clash was 1-12 to 1-9 but Roscrea finished the stronger to maintain their senior status.
