Limerick SHC: Doon 1-15 Na Piarsaigh 0-17

An added time double from Adam English saw Doon defeat Na Piarsaigh in Kilmallock.

James Finn looked to have nicked the game for Na Piarsaigh with his first touch of the game but a placed ball, and a long range effort from his own ’45 saw English earn bragging rights for Derek McGrath’s charges.

In a game that only really sparked in the final stages, it was Doon that held a five-point advantage at the short whistle.

That lead was at seven by the 42nd minute but Na Piarsaigh hit seven on the trot themselves in the following 11 minutes to square the game up to ensure a tense finale that Doon just about edged.

Emmet McEvoy and Ronan Lynch gave Na Piarsaigh a positive start to the first half but Doon soon took control of the contest.

An English free and a sumptuous Darragh O’Donovan sideline cut squared the game only for Tommy Grimes to restore Na Piarsaigh’s lead.

However, Doon were in for the only goal of the game moments later when English forced a turnover deep in Na Piarsaigh territory.

He set up Donal Coughlan and the corner forward bounced his shot past Shane Dowling and into the net.

Coughlan, Chris Thomas and Gareth Thomas then fired over points to put Doon 1-5 to 0-3 up on 16 minutes.

Ronan Lynch got Na Piarsaigh’s first score in 18 minutes and that was followed up by a Conor Boylan strike that cut Doon’s advantage to four.

English interjected once again for Doon in first half added time with two frees that saw them hold a 1-8 to 0-5 up at the break.

A long-range Dowling free opened the second half scoring but a second top drawer O’Donovan point was Doon’s emphatic response.

It was tit for tat for the next period of play before Na Piarsaigh’s sterling comeback. That seven-point run without a Doon reply looked to have edged the game in their favour but there was plenty of drama to come.

Wayne Kearns’ point put Na Piarsaigh up for the first time since the ninth minute but Barry Murphy soon squared the game up yet again.

Finn then struck next but English’s magic saw Doon to the round three win – their third of the championship thus far.

Elsewhere, Kildimo-Pallaskenry produced an excellent second half display to earn a 0-20 to 1-14 win over Dromin-Athlacca in their Senior ‘B’ clash.

Dromin-Athlacca had won two from two since earning promotion and held a two-point lead at half time.

However, Kildimo-Pallaskenry put in a superb second thirty minutes to win for the second time in the championship. David Reidy accounted for the Athlacca goal in the closing stages.
