Mike Quirke has stepped down from his role as a Kerry selector.

"I’ve decided to step away from my role with the Kerry senior set-up after 3 largely enjoyable years," the Kerins O'Rahillys man posted to social media on Wednesday morning.

"Very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a storied and passionate football community.

"While I’ll no longer be on the sidelines, I remain an ardent supporter of Kerry football, and look forward to cheering on the team in the seasons ahead."

The former Kerry midfielder, a four-time All-Ireland winner, joined O'Connor's backroom team when the Dromid man was reappointed Kingdom manager in late 2021. The following year, Kerry went on to win Sam Maguire with victory over Galway in the final.

Prior to taking up the role with Kerry, Quirke had been Laois manager for two seasons. He departed that station in 2021.

After Kerry's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Armagh in July, O'Connor said he intends to remain at the Kingdom helm for the 2025 season.

“This management has another year in its contract, so we’ll hopefully see that out," said O'Connor.

O'Connor was appointed on a two-year term in 2021 and given a further two-year extension in 2023.

Along with Quirke, former Kerry goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy and Tyrone man Paddy Tally have been part of O'Connor's backroom team.
