Waterford have turned to Peter Queally to step up and succeed Davy Fitzgerald as the new Déise hurling manager.

Queally was unveiled on Friday evening as the county’s new manager, pending ratification at the next meeting of the Waterford county board.

Queally served as Davy’s right-hand man during the latter’s two-season term, with the executive now charging him to assume the lead sideline role.

The new manager has previously overseen a host of club teams including Passage and Roanmore in Waterford, as well as coaching Sars of Cork for a number of seasons.

He is the first Waterford man to hold the position of Déise boss since Páraic Fanning in 2019.

Former Tipp hurler Eoin Kelly, who was also involved in Davy’s backroom team, will continue as selector/coach.

He will share coaching duties with Dan Shanahan who is returning to the Waterford dressing-room having previously been part of Derek McGrath’s management team.

Former Waterford hurler Shane O’Sullivan will come in as performance coach.

The new management has been given a two-year term.
