In the world of Gaelic football, positivity takes a back seat too often, critics and fans alike getting snagged in the net of the game's challenges. It's almost as if there is a narrative we must adhere to, one that determines that criticism, however unfair, is the hallmark of a true fan.

Time, then, to take a step back and question this. I wonder about the passionate followers of teams from other sports - Sheffield United, Brentford, St. Pats, Dundalk, Connacht, and Ulster for example - the critique of games is channelled towards team performance or managerial decisions, rather than the principles of the game itself.
