Galway captain Conor Whelan says the inter-county season is being played off too quickly and players are suffering as a result.

Because of the combination of a condensed scheduling escalating the impact of soft tissue injuries and elite hurlers having little or no time off, Whelan envisages more like 2016 hurler of the year Austin Gleeson quitting the game.
