Monaghan boss Vinnie Corey could rue the fortuitous last-minute goal from Sean O’Shea that ballooned the final deficit but it was that failure to make the most of their first-half dominance that exercised him more.

Things were looking okay for Monaghan at half-time yesterday.

Two points had already been claimed on opening weekend against Dublin in Croke Park. True, they were four points down against Kerry here but they had missed a handful of goal chances and there was a stiff breeze at their back for the 35 to come.
