Limerick Premier U21 Final: Mungret St Paul's 1-6 Fr Casey's 0-8

Mungret St Paul’s are Limerick Premier U21 football champions following a thrilling finale that saw them earn a 1-6 to 0-8 extra time win over Fr Casey’s in Tournafulla.

Billy Molyneaux proved to be the hero for the city side with a sublime free that saw them add the football title to the hurling one won last week.

It was a cruel end to the game for a Casey’s side that had led for most of the game only for Darragh O’Hagan’s goal to force extra time.

O’Hagan had Mungret a point up (0-3 to 0-2) with 20 gone of a game played in dreadful conditions throughout.

However, the Abbeyfeale youngsters finished the half with four on the bounce. Two coming from Eliah Riordan and one each from Dylan O’Connor and Adam Fitzgerald.

Luke Walsh got Mungret up and running in the second half but a superb Marc Nolan score had Casey’s in a good place heading into the final quarter.

Tom Lloyd’s ‘45 gave Mungret hope but Riordan’s third of the game in added time looked to have sealed the title for Casey’s.

However, O’Hagan had other ideas with his hand reaching highest to divert Lloyd’s long free beyond the reach of Casey’s keeper Shane O’Connell to force extra time.

Both sides were visibly out on their feet in extra time but Molyneaux’s strike with a minute left proved to be the vital score in an absorbing contest.
