A Teddy McCarthy tribute evening at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, December 9 will see the Cork hurlers take on Galway and Cork footballers entertain Meath.

Gate receipts collected from the double-header will be divided between Cork GAA and the Sarsfields club, and will be funnelled toward the two bodies’ respective tributes to the late Teddy Mac.

Sarsfields GAA club are working on a monument to honour their favourite and most decorated son, while the Cork tribute, when ready, will be put on display in the Páirc Uí Chaoimh premium level.

That it will be Galway and Meath who participate in the double-header stems from McCarthy’s dual-winning exploits in 1990 where Cork defeated the Tribesmen and the Royals on the concluding Sundays of action.

“The only way you can pay tribute to Teddy is by playing hurling and football games on the same night,” said Cork GAA secretary Kevin O’Donovan.

“The Meath footballers and the Galway hurlers have kindly agreed to come down, and they will play the two Cork senior teams.

“We are partnering with Sars on it,” O’Donovan continued. “The funds will go in part to Sarsfields GAA club for the monument they have planned in honour of Teddy and hopefully in part to a tribute we will be unveiling at the stadium ourselves on Premier Level. It won't be a monument on the scale Sars are doing. But it will be our tribute to Teddy in the stadium.”
